Message From The Simcoe-Grey Federal Liberal Riding Association President
As The Liberal Party of Canada begins a new era with Stephane Dion as its Leader, Simcoe-Grey moves forward with a new executive. At the Annual General Meeting held on January 14, 2007 in Wasaga Beach the riding association members chose a new riding association executive. The new President, Ken Eady, believes the new association executive can make a real difference in the future of the riding and the association.
"It is a great time to be a Liberal," said Eady, "Simcoe-Grey has a strong riding association with the largest number of association members in many years. The members come from all parts of the riding, representing all parts of our constituency. It is great to see people with a renewed interest in the Liberal Party and its policies. During the next 12 months we will be working on the renewal of the association and preparing for the next election."
The new President listed five key areas the association will be working on in 2007:
1. We will be asking our members and the riding constituents for their input as part of policy development. Martha Hall Findlay has been appointed by Stephane Dion as Platform Outreach Chair. We want to provide input to that process at every opportunity.
2. In the next few months you, our members, will be selecting a candidate to run in the next federal election. Several great people have already shown interest in the nomination. We are going to be able to offer the voters in Simcoe-Grey a great candidate. This is one of the most exciting parts of being a member of the riding association.
3. We will be calling on members in the upcoming weeks to get involved in the association. When an election is called we will want all the members to be involved. We need people to volunteer at the polls, drive voters, install signs and all kinds of different jobs. If you are interested contact us now (click on the "Contact Us" button at the top of this page).
4. The new executive will be working hard to improve communication with our members and the community. There are lots of opportunities, we just need to work at it. This website is a first step.
5. First and last, but not least, is fundraising. It is one of the most difficult parts of the work of the association. It is however the fuel that keeps the association going. The executive needs the support of all the members to meet the financial needs of the association. We hope by providing meaningful communications and involving members they will better understand the need to financially support the Liberal Riding Association.
"I am pleased to be asked to take this responsibility," Eady concluded, "I look forward to the next year and the challenges of the next election."
